Check if you might be eligible for a widening access offer

Use our checker tool to find out if you might be eligible for a widening access offer and what you need to do next.

Checker tool

We use contextual data, such as your postcode and school/college, to check if your application should receive additional consideration in our admissions process.

You can use this tool to find out whether your application to study at Edinburgh is likely to be given this additional consideration.

The checker tool is updated each year with the latest available data. The current version is only relevant to applicants for entry in September 2025.

What happens next?

You might be eligible for a widening access offer

If you think you might be eligible for a Flag or Plus Flag, it’s important you complete all the relevant fields of your UCAS application. Your teacher or adviser can help you make sure the fields are properly completed.

Once we have your application, we will assess it to see if you qualify for a Flag or Plus Flag.

What happens if you’re eligible for a Plus Flag

You’re not eligible for a widening access offer

If you are not eligible for a Flag or Plus Flag widening access offer, you may have faced other challenging circumstances you want us to be aware of.

Has the checker said that you are not eligible, but you think this is incorrect? You can find more detailed information on the criteria we use to assess your application on our widening access criteria page.
