Art or design unsuccessful applicants

You may have been unsuccessful because you failed to submit a portfolio or because your portfolio was not of the required quality.

Degree programmes that require a portfolio

For our art and design programmes, we require you to submit a digital portfolio to provide evidence of your artistic aptitude and potential.

We are unable to consider your application further if:

  • you did not submit a portfolio, or
  • your portfolio was not of a high enough standard, or
  • your portfolio was strong, but your academic profile was not competitive enough

Portfolio assessment

We will only offer places to applicants whose portfolio is considered to be of a very high standard.

Submitting a portfolio online

You can submit your digital portfolio once you have submitted your UCAS application and received authentication details allowing you to log into MyEd.

You should upload your portfolio to MyEd following the instructions we provide.

The deadline for submission is a few days after the UCAS deadline in January. If you miss this deadline, we will not be able to consider your application.

Academic profile assessment

In some cases, applicants may be unsuccessful on the basis of their academic profile rather than their portfolio.

Demand for places is high, which means we are looking for a strong academic profile alongside your portfolio submission.

If you already have a degree or are currently undertaking university-level study, then we may find your application less competitive. In high-demand areas like art and design, we give preference to people applying for their first degree.
