Fee status and admissions

Any offer we make is made based on your tuition fee status. Competition may vary across different fee status categories, and we will review your application in relation to other applicants who have the same fee status as you.

About fee status

Like other universities, we will assign you a fee status depending on whether you are from Scotland, the rest of the UK and Ireland, or overseas.

Your tuition fee status is determined by your nationality or visa status and the country or region where you are ordinarily resident.

Your fee status may be:

  • Scotland fee rate for students whose fee status is classified as:
    • Scotland fee rate
    • EU-EEA Pre/Settled Scotland fee rate
  • Rest of UK (RUK) fee rate for students whose fee status is classified as:
    • England, Wales and Northern Ireland (RUK) fee rate
    • Republic of Ireland (ROI) fee rate
  • International fee rate for students whose fee status is classified as:
    • EU-EEA Overseas fee rate
    • Overseas fee rate

If you receive an offer to study with us, and we later revise your fee status based on a review or appeal request or due to changes in government guidelines, we may reassess your application. This could mean we have to withdraw your offer.

Fee status and competition

The level of competition for a place will depend on your fee status and the degree programme(s) you apply to.

However, you will only be in competition with applicants who are in the same fee status category as you.

Applicants from Scotland

Applicants from Scotland apply for a restricted number of government-funded places.

For most subjects we receive far more applications than there are places available.

Where there are restrictions on the number of places we can make available to applicants from Scotland, competition for places is often extremely high.

Applicants from the rest of the UK and Republic of Ireland

Applicants from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland apply for a number of places that is not restricted by the government.

However, due to limited capacity and the high volume of applications received, competition for places is often very high.

International applicants

Applicants who do not qualify for Scotland or rest of UK/Republic of Ireland (RUK/ROI) fee status apply for a number of places that is not restricted by the government.

However, due to limited capacity and the high volume of applications received, competition for places is often very high.
