Travel between campuses

You can travel between our campuses on foot, using public transport or using our free shuttle bus service for some campuses.

Open Day campuses

The Open Day activities on 20 June will take place across various areas:

  • Central area (Bristo Square, George Square, Edinburgh Futures Institute, Old College)
  • Easter Bush (Veterinary Medicine)
  • Edinburgh BioQuarter (Medicine)
  • Holyrood campus
  • King’s Buildings campus
  • New College
  • Pollock Halls (accommodation)

Shuttle buses

We provide a free Open Day shuttle bus service between some of our campuses.

We currently list our planned schedule for our shuttle bus service, but we might change these times closer to the event. Check this page closer to 20 June to see our confirmed shuttle bus schedule.

A free Open Day shuttle bus service will run between the Central campus (Buccleuch Place, postcode EH8 9JS) and the King's Buildings campus for all Open Day visitors to use.

This will operate between 9am and 4:30pm, approximately every 10 to 15 minutes, with a journey time of about 15 minutes.

Allow plenty of time to get between campuses, as the shuttle buses can become busy and there may not be space on a particular bus you plan to take. 


A free Open Day shuttle bus service will run between the Central campus (Buccleuch Place, postcode EH8 9JS) and our Medicine visits at the Edinburgh BioQuarter / Royal Infirmary.

Pre-booking is required.

Spaces on this shuttle bus service are limited, and reserved for prospective students only, to prioritise getting students to their activities on time.

Arrive prior to your bus departure time in order to check in and board.

Public bus

If you do not get a space on our shuttle bus, or prefer to use public transport from elsewhere in the city, multiple public Lothian bus services serve the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.

A free Open Day shuttle bus service will run between the Central campus (Buccleuch Place, postcode EH8 9JS) and our Veterinary Medicine visits at the Easter Bush campus.

Spaces on this shuttle bus service are reserved for prospective students and up to 1 guest if you included one when booking.

Arrive prior to your bus departure time in order to check in and board.

Public bus

Edinburgh is well served by a network of local buses and trams that run throughout the day. Several bus services pass close to our campuses. You can plan your journey within the city of Edinburgh on the Lothian Buses website.

Lothian Buses: journey planner

Across Edinburgh city centre (except the Airlink airport bus) you can purchase a single adult ticket at a cost of £2.20 when you board the bus. 

You can pay in a variety of ways, but you will need correct change if paying by cash. Lothian Buses has a contactless payment system, which automatically charges you the cheapest daily fare for the journeys you’ve made (current cap £5 per day).
