Academic support

We provide a range of academic support and advice during your studies. You can get support from academic staff and your peers, but also through workshops and online resources.

School and college support

Your first point of contact for teaching, academic advice and guidance will be within the degree programme you are studying.

You will be supported by academic and administrative staff who will be able to provide you with, or direct you to, appropriate support for challenges you might face during your studies. These can relate directly to your learning and teaching or come about from life situations.

If you are a taught postgraduate student, you will have a Student Adviser. Your Student Adviser will work closely with your teaching team and your Academic Cohort Lead to provide you with study support and guidance. They can also help you access other University support services if required.

Peer-to-peer support and student societies

You can join a variety of peer-to-peer learning networks and student societies during your time with us.

Institute for Academic Development (IAD)

As a postgraduate student, you can benefit from our Institute for Academic Development (IAD). The institute provides information, events and workshops to develop the skills you will need throughout your studies and in your career.

IAD events also offer the perfect opportunity to meet and network with other postgraduate students from across the University.

IAD also offers:

Libraries

We have ten campus libraries with study spaces and computing facilities. They have extended opening hours, and award-winning staff are available to help. Each library covers different subject areas, but all hold library collections.

You can access our electronic resources on or off campus, 24 hours a day.

Our Main Library in George Square is one of the largest academic libraries in the world with more than 2,300 study spaces. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Some schools operate their own libraries with additional resources and sometimes study spaces.

Computer access in our libraries

You can use one of the computers available in our libraries or borrow a laptop from the library. You can also bring your own mobile device, tablet or laptop.
