Tuition fee rates

Tuition fees vary between degree programmes. You can find the specific fees for your chosen degree programme on our postgraduate degree finder.

What tuition fees cover

Tuition fees cover your matriculation, tuition and one diet of examinations. An examination diet is the period of one set of exams.

Annual tuition fees

Postgraduate taught degree programmes

If you are a student on a postgraduate taught degree programme that runs over multiple years and you started your programme after August 2023, you will:

  • not be affected by annual tuition fee increases
  • be charged a fixed annual fee based on the start date of your degree programme

Fees for PhD, MPhil and MRes degree programmes

If you are a research student and you started your programme after August 2022, you will pay a fixed annual tuition fee unless you have a ‘home’ fee status.

How much you need to pay depends on the start date of your degree programme.

PhD, MPhil and MRes fees for students with a ‘home’ fee status

The University sets the tuition fees for students with a ‘home’ fee status. In many cases this will be set at the UKRI minimum fee rate, but some degree programmes will have fees which are different to the UKRI minimum. Because the UKRI rate is usually confirmed by UKRI after the majority of our fees are published, the home fee rate is usually confirmed later than the tuition fees for overseas/international students.

Your tuition fees might increase annually.
