A quick guide to joining your Class for Web session on the day from your e-ticket, what to expect when entering and how to take part during the event. View media transcript While most online events are now hosted using Microsoft Teams, some of the sessions that you have registered for may be hosted on a platform called Class for Web, formerly known as Collaborate or Class Collaborate. We recommend using either Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge with this platform. When you click to join your session from your event e-ticket, you'll see this screen, which will show the name of the session. You'll be prompted to type in a name for yourself. Unlike Microsoft Teams, your name will be visible to everyone using Class for Web, including presenters, moderators, and other attendees. So if you are not comfortable with your real name being visible or potentially read out to everyone as part of a Q&A segment, we recommend that you create a fake name for yourself like I'm doing here. Once you're let into the session, you'll see the presentation being shared on the screen like this. If you look down at the bottom of your screen, you'll see that your camera and microphone have been turned off. You will not have access to your camera or microphone for the duration of the session, and this is to minimise any distractions for the presenter and to ensure the quality of the session recording, which we share with everyone afterwards. On the bottom right hand corner of the screen, you'll see a purple tab, which you can click on to show more information about the session. Here you'll be able to see how many other attendees are in the session with you and who the moderators are. You can also find the chat function here in this speech bubble icon. In the chat menu, click Everyone to ask your questions, which will be visible to everyone. Please protect yourself online. You should never share personal information in the chat, like your full name, email address, or phone number. If you do this, it will then be visible to everyone. You can chat with moderators privately if you need to let them know about a technical issue, for example. We're committed to ensuring that everyone can access the session content as fully as they can. So you'll notice an option bar at the top of the screen that allows you to zoom in and out of the slides as needed. Finally, in the top left hand corner, you'll see another menu which you can also open. Here you can get help on how to navigate the session screen in the Tell Me About Collaborate section, or you can open the online help pages from the Class for Web website. You can also report an issue from here as well. When the session ends or if you need to leave early, click the leave session button at the bottom of this menu. Everyone who signed up to the event or the session will receive a recording of it afterwards, regardless of whether or not you've been able to join us live. We will share the recording with you by email, so please keep an eye on your inbox after the event has ended. If you do not receive a recording email seven days after the event date, please contact the relevant event team for help. Joining the session Use the event link to open Class for Web and join the session. You will be asked to enter your name to access the session (this does not have to be your actual name if you do not want it to be disclosed in the chat or session recordings).Check your device audio is turned on so you can hear the presentation. Communicating during the session During the session, staff from the school or department will be on hand to answer any questions you might have. Each session will be different, but when asking questions, you will usually follow this process:Use the ‘Raise Hand’ feature in Class for Web to signal that you want to ask a question or make a comment. When it is your turn to ask your question, the moderator will call on you.You can then type your question into the chat window and send this to the whole room.Once your question has been answered, you can lower your hand.If you are having problems during the session, you can use the chat window to communicate with the moderator.
