The YourEd School Programme is open to all pupils within our partner schools. Throughout years S1 to S6, it provides information, advice and guidance about higher education and studying at the University of Edinburgh. As a YourEd partner school and/or pupil, you will take part in activities throughout your school years from S1 to S6. See our partner schools The programme consists of yearly workshops which offer information, advice and guidance about higher education (HE) and studying at the University of Edinburgh. Our workshops S1 workshops What is university This session will introduce your pupils to higher education and where it fits into their education journey. We also cover the options available and the benefits of higher education. Campus visit Your pupils will have the opportunity to come onto our campus to see and experience the university environment. The day involves: interactive activities campus tours an introduction to relevant staff a chance to meet university students and alumni of your school who are currently studying with us S2 workshops Course choices We will provide useful tips and strategies to help with S3 course choices. We will link this to entry requirements for university and the importance of National 5s for applying to higher education. Meet our students In this session, former pupils from your school who now study at the University of Edinburgh will discuss: their journey to higher education what university is like what they wished they would have known before they came to university their future plans The session will end with a chance for your pupils to ask questions. S3 workshops Why go to uni? This session looks at the important question of 'why go to university?'. We look at possible reasons young people might want to continue their studies, examine their own motivations, and explore the lifelong benefits of having a degree. This session will be supported by former pupils from your school, who are currently studying at the University of Edinburgh. Campus visit Your pupils will have the opportunity to come onto our campus to see and experience the university environment. The day involves: interactive activities campus tours an introduction to relevant staff a chance to meet university students and alumni of your school who are currently studying with us This visit will also look at entry requirements and includes a future planning session. S4 workshops Careers and higher education opportunities This session will look at the varied career opportunities available to university graduates. Pupils will hear from some of our fantastic graduates. They will tell us about the jobs and career paths they entered after university and how all of their experiences, both in and outside of classes, played a huge part in what they went on to do after university. S5 course choices and entry requirements In this session, we will look closely at entry requirements and give guidelines on researching and navigating them. We do this through cases studies of student grade profiles and the university options available for those grades. S5 workshops UCAS This session will go through the UCAS process step by step to make sure pupils know how to prepare and what to expect. We’ll also advise them how to make strategic choices by working through some examples to help them plan their own UCAS journey. My degree and me Former pupils from your school, who are currently studying at the University of Edinburgh, will share their journey to university, their experiences of Highers, Advanced Highers and the application process. The students will also share their top tips on what they wish they would have known at the start of S5. S6 workshops UCAS This session will go through the UCAS process step by step to make sure pupils know how to prepare and what to expect. We’ll also advise them how to make strategic choices by working through some examples to help them plan their own UCAS journey. Personal statements A session on how to structure and write the UCAS personal statement. We’ll work through real life examples with pupils and provide a worksheet to complete as we go along. By the end of the workshop, young people will have a clear understanding of what’s needed for a great personal statement and notes to begin writing their own personal statement.
