Step 2: Calculate estimated additional study costs

Additional study costs for postgraduates can be mandatory or optional and include things like text books, field trips or placement costs.

Where to find additional study costs

You can find additional study costs under the 'Additional programme costs' heading on your programme's page on the degree finder.

For some research programmes, the exact additional costs you need to pay will be confirmed in your offer letter.

Not all programmes will have additional study costs listed. If this is the case for your programme, skip to the next step.

How to calculate your additional study costs amount

Some additional study costs will be a one-off, while others you might have to pay every year.

To get a total of the mandatory additional study costs:

  1. Add all the one-off additional study costs listed for your programme together.
  2. Multiply yearly additional costs by the number of years you need to pay those. Add all of those sums together.
  3. Add together the one-off and total yearly sums to get your estimated total additional study costs.
