How to apply for accommodation

If you are unhappy with your assessed grades, you should use your exam board’s appeal process to request a review. We cannot appeal on your behalf. Your school or college should be able to help.   

If you plan to appeal your grades, it is important that you let us know as soon as possible. 

If you are a Conditional Firm or Conditional Insurance offer holder, do not contact us through this form. Instead, fill in our appeals notification form which asks for all the information we’ll need to know about your appeal.

If your appeal is successful, and you receive grades that meet your conditions by 31 August 2026 (QS/SQA applicants – 3 September 2026), we will confirm your place for entry in September 2026, wherever possible. A successful appeal will not automatically guarantee your place for entry in September 2026.

Wherever possible, if your appeal is successful, and you receive grades that meet your conditions between 1 September and 31 December 2026, we will offer a deferred place for entry in September 2027.

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept grades awarded through a successful appeal after 31 December 2026.

We can consider a request to change your degree, but there is no guarantee we will be able to make the change. It will depend on whether there is any space available, and whether you meet the entry requirements.

Students who have received their results can apply to the University of Edinburgh through Clearing from 2 July 2026.

Applicants from Scotland

We have a limited number of Clearing vacancies available on some of our degrees for qualified students who have received their results with a tuition fee status of ‘Scotland Fee Rate'. Places on more degrees may become available in August.

Applicants from England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland

We have a limited number of Clearing vacancies available on some of our degrees for qualified students who have received their results with a tuition fee status of ‘Rest of the UK/Republic of Ireland Fee Rate'. Places on more degrees may become available in August.

International/European Union applicants

We currently have a limited number of Clearing vacancies available on some of our degrees for qualified students who have received their results with a tuition fee status of ‘Overseas’ or 'EU EEA Overseas'.

Applying to another University through Clearing

If you are looking to take up a place through Clearing at another university, we recommend finding a vacancy first and then releasing yourself into Clearing. Select 'Decline your place' in the dropdown for more guidance.

If you have met the conditions of your offer, your place will be confirmed automatically and you do not need to contact us to confirm your grades.

Want to go to your insurance choice? 

Do not release yourself into Clearing through 'Decline my place' as this will make you lose your insurance choice. 

If your offer at Edinburgh has been confirmed: 

First speak to your insurance choice to see if they still have a place for you. Once this has been confirmed, follow their instructions for next steps.

If your offer at Edinburgh has not been confirmed: 

If you do not meet our conditions but you meet the conditions of your offer from your insurance choice and would like to go there instead, select ‘I still need help’ to tell us through this form. We will reject your place at Edinburgh, which automatically gives you your place at your insurance choice.

If you do meet our conditions and you also meet the conditions of your offer from your insurance choice and would like to go there instead, please discuss this with your insurance choice and follow their instructions for next steps.

Want to release yourself into Clearing? 

If you want to look for a new place in Clearing at another university which is not your firm or insurance choice, we recommend you have your offer in writing from the other university before declining your offer with us. 

You can release yourself from your offer by clicking on the 'Decline my place' button on your application in UCAS Hub and following the instructions.

If you have not met the conditions of your offer, and we have been unable to confirm your place, you will find information on the UCAS Hub about your options. This may be information about an insurance place (if applicable) or about Clearing options.
