(iOS) https://apps.apple.com/us/app/unibuddy/id1548743285

This mobile application is run by the Student Recruitment and Admissions Directors Office at the University of Edinburgh. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this application. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Experience no time limits when using the app
  • Change colours on the application using mobile customisation options
  • Increase some font sizes using mobile customisation options

We’ve also made the application’s text as simple as possible to understand. However, some of our content is technical, and we use technical terms where there is no easier wording we could use without changing what the text means.

Customising the website

AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability. This is an external site with suggestions to make your computer more accessible:

How accessible this application is

We know some parts of this application are not fully accessible:

  • Pinch and expand does not work.
  • Some information is conveyed by colour only.
  • Some colour contrasts could be improved.
  • Changing font size does not work on Android.
  • Some links open the browser without warning or open pop-ups.
  • Not all links have meaningful hypertext.
  • Mobile device screen readers (TalkBack, VoiceOver) have issues with reading some content.
  • No all images have alternative text.
  • There may be videos without transcripts, human-corrected captions and audio descriptions.
  • Adjusting how the image is cut requires dragging and does not have an alternative.
  • There are moving gifs that cannot be paused or stopped.
  • iOS and Android version cannot be viewed in landscape mode.
  • Mobile accessibility settings to customise the app are not fully compatible.
  • Some error messages could be clearer to indicate to the user how to resolved the issue.

Compliance status

This application is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

The full guidelines are available at:

Non accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Noncompliance with the accessibility regulations

The following items do not comply with the WCAG 2.2 AA success criteria:

We aim to improve our application's accessibility on a regular and continuous basis. See the section below ('What we're doing to improve accessibility') on how we are improving our app accessibility.

We are working towards solving these problems and expect significant improvements by April 2027. Most of the errors are outwith our control as the application is run by a third party.

Disproportionate burden

We are not currently claiming that any accessibility problems would be a disproportionate burden to fix.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

At this time, we believe no content is outwith the scope of the accessibility regulations.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We will continue to address the accessibility issues highlighted, working alongside the software suppliers for Unibuddy to deliver a solution or suitable workaround. Unless specified otherwise, a complete solution or significant improvement will be in place for those items within our control by April 2027. However, most of the issues are not within our control but sit with Unibuddy. We are in contact with Unibuddy to discuss how best to resolve these issues as soon as possible.

While we are in the process of resolving these accessibility issues, we will ensure reasonable adjustments are in place to make sure no user is disadvantaged. As changes are made, we will continue to review accessibility and retest the accessibility of this application.
